Between: Mapping Home
Digital print, dyeing, devoré. Silk-rayon, cotton-sateen, cotton-linen. 16in x 72in (panels); 72in x 16in (devoré); 15in x 52in (surface, seating upholstery). 2021.
Presented as an audio-visual textile installation, this project draws on cartography, visual semiotics, and textile design to map the emotional geographies of migration. Developed through an autoethnographic study of the artist’s family history, the work presents twelve digitally printed panels depicting cities or residence within and outside of Jamaica, paired as “before” and “after” spaces and connected by a hand-dyed devoré textile bridge. Accompanied by recorded family narratives, the installation invited viewers to engage migration as a memory-based journey shaped by place, story, and affect rather than physical movement alone.
