Between: Mapping Home
Digital print, dyeing, devoré. Silk-rayon, cotton-sateen, cotton-linen. 16in x 72in (panels); 72in x 16in (devoré); 15in x 52in (surface, seating upholstery). 2021.
This audio-visual textile installation draws on cartography, visual semiotics, and textile design to map the emotional geographies of migration. Developed through an autoethnographic study of the artist’s family history, the work presents twelve digitally printed panels depicting cities in and beyond Jamaica, paired as “before” and “after” spaces and connected by a hand-dyed devoré textile bridge. Accompanied by recorded family narratives, the installation invites viewers to engage migration as a memory-based journey shaped by place, story, and affect rather than physical movement alone.
